Old habits die hard.

Newshounds gravitated toward the usual suspects on ODT’s website this past week: M&A and product clearances.

Garnering the most page views was the completion of Orthofix’s merger with SeaSpine, though coming in a close second was French-American specialist Companion Spine’s purchase of BackBone SAS, a French firm that designs, develops, manufactures, and markets functional motion restoration implantable devices to treat spinal disorders. The acquisition expands Companion Spine’s medical implant solutions portfolio and allows the company to complete its line of treatment solutions for spine diseases, most notably lumbar stenosis and degenerative disc disease, matching implants to the degree of disease severity.

Arthrex and Pristine Surgical drove web traffic with FDA clearances for their respective products. The agency greenlighted Arthrex’s ACL TightRope implant for pediatric indications and Pristine Surgical’s Summit. The TightRope implant is used to treat orthopedic injuries and is the first and only fixation device for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries cleared for pediatric use, according to Arthrex.
